How long does Omnipod 5 last?
The same 72 hours of automated insulin delivery per Pod. Omnipod 5 differs from DASH in that it adjusts delivery automatically using CGM readings rather than following a fixed programme, but the Pod itself is still a three-day wear.
How much insulin does an Omnipod hold?
Up to 200 units of U-100 insulin. That's the maximum fill; how long it actually lasts you depends on your own daily requirement, which is why two people on identical Pods can get very different mileage out of one.
Is Omnipod 5 compatible with Dexcom G7?
Yes. Omnipod 5 integrates with Dexcom G6 and Dexcom G7, using the CGM reading to adjust insulin delivery automatically. Setup is done through the Omnipod 5 Controller or the app rather than through the Dexcom app — Insulet's own documentation walks through the pairing, and it's the source worth trusting because the steps change between software versions.
Is Omnipod compatible with FreeStyle Libre 3?
Not Libre 3. The Libre sensor Omnipod 5 integrates with is FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus — a different sensor despite the similar name, which catches people out when they're choosing between systems. If CGM integration matters to you, check the current compatibility list on Insulet's site before switching either device, because this list has changed more than once.
How long will an Omnipod work after it expires?
Two different expiry dates get confused here. The Pod signals the end of its 72-hour wear and stops delivering shortly after — that's a wear limit, not a shelf-life one. The expiration date printed on the box is different: it's how long the sealed Pod is good for before you ever open it, and once that date passes the Pod shouldn't be used. Sealed Pods well inside that date are the ones that still have value if you're not going to use them.
How much does an Omnipod cost?
It depends almost entirely on your insurance, your plan's pharmacy or DME benefit, and whether you're on Omnipod 5 or DASH — which is why a single number quoted anywhere online is usually wrong for you. Insulet publishes current pricing and access programmes, and your plan's formulary is the only reliable answer. What about the Pods you never got round to using?
Almost everyone on a Pod prescription ends up with some. Supply ships on a schedule and use doesn't — a hospital stay, a switch to another pump, a change of insurance, and suddenly there's most of a box sitting in a cupboard with a perfectly good date on it.
